Picking your dream wedding location abroad

There are many things to consider when planning your dream day abroad and even more when you are planning an Asian wedding.

Over the coming weeks, we will be talking to you about all things destination weddings. We often find that some couples will know exactly where they want to tie the knot from the moment they start the planning process. However, some don’t know but just know that they want to get married abroad.

Here are some important things to consider when choosing your dream location:

The setting

Have a think about if you want your ceremony overlooking the beautiful blue waters of the Mediterranean, having an iconic landmark such as the Burj Al Arab as your backdrop to your wedding or a picturesque Italian vineyard to create the setting. The options are endless, but try and narrow down your ideas to the type of setting you would like, as it will help to determine the location.

The venue

Venue options will vary by country from beautiful resorts and boutique hotels to castles and private villas. You need to think about your guest numbers and if the venue can accommodate your numbers and also what the venue provides.

The weather

Hot climates are typically guaranteed in many destinations abroad, however there will be certain months in the year that the weather won’t be as hot. So it’s important to think about your dream location and the weather across the year in the location.

The cost

The cost element is one of the most important parts as it’s often easy to get caught up in Instagram and Pinterest images of beautiful weddings abroad. BUT, it is so important that you understand the varying costs involved in the dream destination of yours from the venue itself, food costs per head and what is included within that cost, drinks, your various suppliers and of course your guests accommodation and travel.

The logistics

It is essential to consider the logistics for your guests and also your suppliers. You don’t want your guests spending more than an hour to travel to your venue and accommodation from the airport – they will be exhausted before they even arrive. Remember, they are travelling there for you and your other half.

The suppliers

Especially when planning an Asian destination wedding, you need to consider the availability of local suppliers and what they provide – for example can they accommodate to your catering requirements and can they provide the perfect settings for your religious ceremony such as your Hindu wedding, Anand Karaj or Nikkah. Some suppliers, will need to come from the UK as local suppliers will not be able to fulfil your requirements, so it’s important to factor in their travel and accommodation costs to the location.
